A Bowl of Cherries
Fresh cherries in a hand-made ceramic pot. I am always amazed how imaginative and creative the human mind can be. Some people paint others play musical instruments and some mold beautiful pots out of lumps of clay. My friend Ludmila Kociánová is one of these talented people. She can look at a simple piece of wet clay and see something extraordinary in it. She can create something extremely beautiful out of something so simple and natural as a piece of earth. She works with her hands to form the pots then fires them in a simple wood burning oven. The process of making pots takes much time. The molding , drying and firing continues for days. She molds each pot by hand then puts them on a shelf to dry. When she has enough pots to fire, she lines them up in the rear of her wood burning oven then lights a fire at the front of the oven near the door. The fire must continue to burn slowly for eight to ten hours. The fact that she uses a wood burning oven demonstrates the passion she has for her art. I feel very honor that she is my friend and that she cares enough about me to share with me this lovely creation.
