Baked Apple Butter on Toast

Baked Apple Butter

4 pounds (1.8 kg) fresh apples

1 cup water


1 Tablespoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon cloves

½ all spice

Heat oven to 350 F (175 C). Core, quarter, and puree apples in food processor ( I don’t peel the apples). For each cup of apple puree add ½ cup sugar. Stir in remaining ingredients. Put apple mixture in an oven-proof pan. Bake in oven for two hours or until thick. Stir once every half hour. Ladle the thick apple butter into hot sterilized jars and seal.

I like my apple butter chunky. If you prefer sooth apple butter, cook the apples on top of the stove until soft then run through food mill before putting the apples in the oven.
