Homemade Coffee Liqueur
While during the summer months I focus on making wine from the fruit of our garden, in winter I turn my attention to making spirits, liqueurs and elixirs. The method is simple however the result is pure luxury.
This recipe for coffee liqueur is surprisingly simple. Combine sugar and coffee and alcohol , let is sit a month or two and bottle. Once made it can be presented as a special gift for friends and family.
2 cups (400 g) of sugar
1 cup (250 ml)of water
8 heaping teaspoons of instant coffee
2 cups (500 ml) vodka
½ vanilla bean
Heat water and sugar on burner until sugar is dissolved. Do not let the syrup boil. Add instant coffee, stir well. Pour into clean bottle with a tight cap. Let cool. Once cooled add vodka and vanilla bean. Close tightly and store for one month. Strain into a recycled wine bottle and seal with a new cork. There will be a bit left over for the cook. Makes approximately 4 cups.
